St. John the Baptist. 1139 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana. Built in 1972. St. John the Baptist church was built for Dominican Nuns along with a school of the same name. The school was built as an academy for girls, later accepting younger boys. It was open for almost one hundred years until it was demolished to make room for the Pontchartrain Expressway. Luckily, the church remained and still stands as a landmark on the side of the highway.
